How can PRP help reduce hair thinning and/or hair loss?
The regenerative properties of the platelets found in PRP help repair and revitalize the damaged hair follicles. As the follicles are repaired, new hair growth is stimulated and you’ll begin to see fuller, thicker, healthier hair growth. PRP also stimulates circulation in the treated area and brings much-needed nutrients to the hair follicles to help nourish and restore them. With time and appropriate treatment, PRP for hair regrowth can yield results comparable to hair transplants.
Benefits of using PRP for hair restoration
- There’s little to no downtime associated with this hair restoration treatment
- Unlike most hair restoration treatments, PRP is non-surgical and minimally-invasive
- Promotes new hair growth
- PRP helps strengthen damaged hair follicles to reduce hair thinning and/or hair loss
How many treatments?
Most of our patients are able to achieve their best results with three treatments scheduled six to eight weeks apart to begin treating hair loss. Some patients may require additional treatments after the first three and we often recommend follow-up treatments every four to six months to continue improvement and maintain results. During your initial consultation, we will determine the appropriate number of treatments needed to help you achieve your optimal results.
What can I expect from treatment?
Like many hair growth treatments, the results of PRP for hair restoration develop gradually. Many of our patients see the most noticeable improvement in the treated area approximately three to six months after their treatment. As the PRP works to stimulate circulation, repair damaged hair follicles, and brings important nutrients to the treated area, you’ll begin to notice an improvement in the strength and fullness of your hair. Individual results may vary depending on the amount of hair loss and/or hair thinning prior to treatment.
How much recovery time is needed?
There is very little recovery time associated with PRP for hair restoration. Many of our patients are able to return to their normal activities immediately after their PRP for hair regrowth treatment. Some patients may experience some mild scalp tenderness the first several days after your PRP therapy, but any discomfort associated with the treatment can usually be managed with cold compresses/ice packs and over-the-counter pain medication. You should avoid using hair dyes or other chemicals for at least 48 hours after your PRP for hair restoration treatment.
